She Dan Chuan Bei San expels pathogenic wind, relieves coughing, and removes phlegm. The formula is mainly used to treat cough due to lung-heat, abundant expectoration, short breath, and cough with yellow sticky phlegm.
Oral Powder: 0.3g per bottle, 0.3-0.6g each time, 2-3 times a day. The liquid is orally taken as one dose, 3 times a day. The capsule is orally taken as 2 capsules, 3 times a day. 5:1 concentrated extracts: 9 grams/day

4) It is prohibited from being taken by patients with cough due to wind and cold, accumulation of phlegm-dampness in the lung, lingering cough due to weakness, and loose stool.
Inhibitive effect on central nervous system: In mice, this formula can significantly reduce the amount of voluntary behavior in mice, extend convulsion, and delay death due to strychnine, thus having a significant inhibiting effect on the central nervous system.(

Relieving cough and removing phlegm: This formula can significantly reduce the number of coughs caused by ammonia water in guinea pigs and increase the excretion of phenol red in mice trachea.(6)
In vitro antiseptic effect: There has been research into the in vitro antiseptic activities of She Dan Chuan Bei. The Kirby-Beuer paper diffusion and agar gel dilution methods were used to carry out sensitivity tests on Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, pneumococcus, and beta hemolytic streptococcus. As a result, the diameter of a circle for She Dan Chuan Bei Ye and its diluted solution (1:10) to inhibit beta hemolytic streptococcus is 24 and 12mm respectively. These results showed that She Dan Chuan Bei Ye has certain antiseptic activities on beta hemolytic streptococcus.(7)
Treating bronchitis
304 cases of chronic bronchitis were treated with She Dan Chuan Bei. The overall effectiveness rate was 88.52%. The cough-relieving effectiveness rate was 91.30%, the phlegm-removing effectiveness rate was 91.57%, and the asthma-relieving effectiveness rate was 75%. 30 cases of acute or chronic bronchitis, due to phlegm and heat in traditional Chinese medicine, were treated with Dan Bei capsules and She Dan Chuan Bei capsules for a double-blind contrast. As a result, the symptoms were significantly improved in both groups, and both experienced similar therapeutic effects. This showed that both capsules have the ability to clear heat, remove phlegm, relieve cough, and both have certain therapeutic effects on cough due to phlegm and heat.(

The formula She Dan Chuan Bei powder was used to treat 343 cases of acute and chronic bronchitis, inflammation of upper respiratory tract, and cough. The formula contained She Dan (Snake Bile), Chuan Bei Mu (Sichuan Fritillary Bulb), Qi Ye Yi Zhi Hua (Birthwort Fruit), Ma Dou Ling (Aristolochia Fruit), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), and Gan Cao (Licorice Root). The total effectiveness rate was 90.37%.(9)
Treating recurrent aphtha
The powdered formula was orally administered and externally applied to treat 2 cases of lingering aphtha. Pain was alleviated and the ulcerations were resolved after 3 and 10 days of treatment, respectively. No relapses occurred in a 3-month follow-up visit.(10)
Treating chronic pharyngitis
30 cases of chronic pharyngitis were treated for 6 days as one course of treatment. The total effectiveness rate was 93.3%.(11)
Treating uterine neck wound’s surface bleeding:
52 cases were treated with this formula. The herbs used included She Dan Chuan Bai San, with Qing Dai (Natural Indigo), Ming Fan (Alum), Pu Huang Tan (Cattail Pollen), Huang Qi (Astragalus Root), and a small amount of crushed borneol. Routine sterilization was carried out for the vagina and the neck of the uterus. The well-mixed powder was applied to the uterine neck wound’s surface once a day until the bleeding ceased. The results showed significant effectiveness in 48 cases and improvement in 4 cases. When re-examination was carried out on 40 patients 6 months later, no reoccurring bleeding was found on the wound surfaces.(12)
Treating infantile pneumonia
100 cases of infantile pneumonia were treated with She Dan Chuan Bei San in coordination with routine therapy using antibiotics, cough-relieving drugs, and hormone and oxygen-inhale. 80 cases in a comparison group were treated with only the routine therapy. The results showed that the total effectiveness rates were 85% and 67.5% respectively in the two groups.(13)
